How the calculators work
Every calculator turns your measurements into a volume, then into weight and bag counts using published values for that material, or our labeled estimate where none exists. The steps are printed under each result so you can check them by hand.
How we check them
The shared formulas are checked against a table of hand-worked answers every time the site is built, and each page’s worked examples are calculated from the same data files as its calculator. See how we check our numbers.
